This is a classic Kiwi camping ground surrounded by trees, gardens and a freshwater stream. Te Araroa Holiday Park is located right between Opotiki in the eastern Bay of Plenty region and Gisborne, making it a good location to catch a glimpse of the majestic sunrise the East Cape is so famous for. Facilities are basic but functional, offering everything you need for a peaceful camping trip.

If you’ve always wanted to do the Abel Tasman Coastal Walk, the stunning Totaranui Campground is one of the best places to stay during the 51-kilometre (31.7-mile) journey. The site is huge – it’s said to be able to accommodate up to 850 people – and extends from the golden-sand beaches right up to the estuary.

Located just 7km from Mopani Rest Camp in the famous Kruger National Park, this rustic camp boasts 30 campsites set out in two circles, each surrounding excellent kitchen and ablution facilities. The facilities are basic; hot water, electricity, and lights are provided via solar power and gas. This Tsendze Camp, one of the newest in the Park, has quickly become very popular for its superb setting and excellent bird and game life, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, and various antelope. Lions and leopards have also been spotted here.

If you’re planning to visit one of the most breathtaking regions in South Africa, the Tsitsikamma National Park on the spectacular Garden Route is an ideal choice. Storms River Mouth Rest Camp offers an unbeatable setting stretching 5km towards the seashore in the eastern section of the Park, where dolphins frolic in the waves and the Southern Right Whale makes its presence known. Guests here have access to 80km of dramatic rugged coastline and every facility for a pleasant camping experience.  The birdlife is unbeatable and otters and animals native to the region are waiting to be discovered on the shore and in the forest.

Al Qudra Lake is a man-made desert oasis that was built to promote eco-tourism in Dubai. It comprises of multiple artificial lakes, surrounded by sand dunes and fauna. The artificial lakes, surrounded by the sand dunes offer a beautiful setting for barbeque, stargazing and overnight camping.

White sand, crystal clear water. Nestled on the Isle of Mull (you’ll need to get the ferry over), this remote campsite backs right onto the beach, so expect to be lulled to sleep by the sound of waves. Spend your days exploring the rugged coastline and spotting wildlife like dolphins and eagles, and bring your bikes and kayaks to get off-road and discover the remote corners of this island.

Camp on the shores of the Lake District’s most famous lake: Windermere. Be sure to make the most of your waterside location with activities like paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, or rowing. This National Trust campsite includes traditional pitches with lake or meadow views and glamping safari tents. If you want to camp in the trees rather than below them, you can also try your hand at back-to-basics hammock camping, or a stay in one of the two cozy tree tents, essentially large canvas balls dangling from the branches.

The Green Mountain National Forest is well known for Vermont’s Long Trail.

Aside from being stunning, the 270-plus miler is the oldest long-distance trail in the U.S. It follows the ridge of the Green Mountains through Vermont from the Massachusetts border to Canada.
